My Journey

Prior to Industry

I graduated in 2019 with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Mathematics from Vanderbilt University.

Throughout my senior year in college, I did various passion projects in machine learning, including a data science project to investigate the effect of drug abuse on mental health and a web app that uses AI to automatically label voice datasets with the age category of the speaker.

After graduating, I participated in an NYC-based fellowship program focused on building real-world machine learning applications.

Cultivate

I was the first machine learning engineer hired at Cultivate, a startup that offered an AI-powered digital coaching platform for managers. I was primarily responsible for building the foundation for our machine learning microservice, which involved training and deploying state-of-the-art NLP models. We utilized large language models and transformers, using modern libraries such as Hugging Face, PyTorch, and SpaCy.

I was also responsible for owning end-to-end projects, including the integration of an NLP model to measure empathy in conversations. We were inspired by a paper describing a study on empathy expressed in text-based mental health support. I wrote a blog post here.

I made various other contributions, such as real-time monitoring of model confidence in production and the incorporation of personality type into our platform.

These contributions helped immensely with our company's success - we ultimately became a part of Perceptyx in 2022.

Amazon

Most recently, I've worked as a Machine Learning Engineer on the Amazon Style team, where I worked on search ranking, retrieval, and ML pipelines. I gained significant experience with ML infrastructure and AWS.

Mentorship

Finding mentors was a huge part of my journey in machine learning. As someone who's new to the field, it can be a daunting task to start a career in AI.

After gaining personal experience I decided to pay it forward and help aspiring machine learning engineers land their dream jobs in AI.

I provide personal career advice, interviewing tips, industry knowledge, project help, and more.

I currently offer services through SharpestMinds.
